McCann FitzGerald is very pleased to note the appointment of, and wishes every success to, Gerald FitzGerald in his new position as a Member at the Irish Competition Authority.
Mr FitzGerald has acted in a consulting role to McCann FitzGerald for the last three years in the area of EU law, competition law, State aid, and merger control. The Competition, Regulated Markets and EU Law practice continues to be headed by partners Damian Collins, based in Brussels, and Philip Andrews based in Dublin.
McCann FitzGerald's Competition, Regulated Markets and EU Law practice is widely regarded as one of Ireland's leading teams with extensive experience not only on the core competition competencies of merger control, cartel investigations and dominance issues, but also on a diverse range of issues associated with market regulation, State aid and competition litigation.
In recent times, the practice has advised major Irish companies on critical competition and regulatory assignments including the EU State aid and competition issues associated with the Irish Government's banking recapitalisation, and the merger control aspects of company restructuring in crisis situations.
The team has also pioneered the integration of litigation and contentious advice into the practice of competition law in Ireland, and acts for clients in competition and market regulation cases in both the Irish Courts and the EU Courts.
Congratulating Mr FitzGerald on his role, Chairman John Cronin said: "We are delighted for Gerald on the news of his appointment. He has made an enormous contribution to the firm both as a partner and more recently as a consultant, and we are sure that Gerald will make a major contribution to the development of Irish competition law and policy in his new role.
