The European Union (Copyright and Related Rights) Regulations 2012 - S.I. No. 59/2012 was signed into law by junior minister of the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Sean Sherlock on Wednesday, 29 February 2012.

On 4 April 2012 Minister for Justice, Alan Shatter, announced the establishment of the Property Services Regulation Authority. The establishment of the Authority was provided for in the Property Services (Regulation) Act 2011 which was signed into law on the 19th of December 2011.

The Irish Minister for Finance has approved, in principle, the development of legislation for a new corporate structure for funds which is intended to meet US ‘check the box’ requirements and reduce administrative costs. This step is consistent with the Irish government’s on-going commitment to the continued development of the funds industry in Ireland.

From 1 March 2012, the Property Registration Authority (“PRA”) has introduced a new one page form of charge that must be used for taking security over registered land (with very limited exceptions). This requirement applies to commercial and residential mortgages a similar approach to that adopted by the Irish Banking Federation for the creation of mortgages over residential property.

Government proposals for new legislation would alter the law and procedures of personal insolvency in radical ways. The proposals include the establishment of an independent Insolvency Service and the introduction of non-judicial procedures for addressing unsecured debts (of any value) and secured debts (in the range €20,000 to €3 million). Current bankruptcy laws would also be amended.
