When we offer a person a traineeship, it is in the genuine hope that each trainee will one day become a partner in McCann FitzGerald - 70% of our current partners trained with the firm.
We aim to attract and retain the brightest minds; creative thinkers who possess the imagination to generate innovative and commercial solutions for our clients.
We look for candidates who are technically excellent with a genuine interest in law and a passion to continuously learn and grow - individuals capable of building relationships with colleagues and clients alike.
We don’t ‘pigeonhole’ people and we don’t have a ‘type’. Our trainees – and hence most of our qualified lawyers – have a wide variety of backgrounds and interests. While a primary qualification in law would be useful, it is by no means mandatory; many trainees have come to us with degrees in arts, psychology, commerce, engineering, science and business.

Graduates from all the principal Irish universities and colleges are represented within the firm. A significant number of our trainees have additional post-graduate qualifications in both legal and other disciplines, particularly business-related. Others have obtained practical work experience, both in Ireland and around the globe, before joining us. In some cases other trainees have already established careers in other professions before deciding to pursue a traineeship with us – we have taken on people with professional backgrounds as varied as science, public relations and technology.
