Hugh is the lead partner in the London Office of McCann FitzGerald and is a director of McCann FitzGerald's listing services division, McCann FitzGerald Listing Services Limited. 

Hugh specialises in debt capital markets, restructuring, structured finance, secured lending and enforcement, bank/financial services regulation,  securitisation and corporate treasury.  As well as being lead counsel in respect of debt capital markets matters to two of the six Irish credit institutions covered by the Irish Government Guarantee scheme,  he has, at one time or another, acted for or advised most bank, investment firm and major capital markets participants who have dealt in the Irish market in relation to various transactions and/or Irish company, securities and financial services laws.

Hugh was a member of the European Securitisation Forum's Task Force on the Market Abuse Directive and is a regular contributor to financial services publications.

His recent work includes:

  • Acting as lead Irish counsel to Irish Nationwide Building Society in respect of various high profile matters including the issuance by INBS of its €4 billion Guaranteed 'Own Use' Bond, advising as to Irish legal matters in the defence  by INBS of the claim by certain Lower Tier 2 Subordinate Noteholders and on the impact of the introduction of the Credit Insitutions (Stabilisation) Act 2010
  • Advising EBS Building Society in relation to its EMTN programme and various supplements and updates as a consequence of the introduction of the Credit Institutions (Stabilisation) Act 2010 and amendments as a consequence of the Irish Government Guarantee
  • Advising the directors of several Lehman subsidiaries in Ireland and all of the Irish "Windermere" Lehman CMBS conduits
  • Acting for the UniCredit Group in respect of their Irish banking operations, particularly UniCredit Bank Ireland p.l.c, and acting on numerous UniCredit Group "retained" securitisations
  • Establishing and acting for the €16 billion purchase vehicle in connection with SIV restructuring by the Free State of Saxony and several German banks
  • Acting for RBS Group/Ulster Bank in respect of the €1 billion Celtic 16 residential mortgage backed securitisation, one of the very few Irish domestic securitisations of 2010
